Sprint 3: Quiet Please!
Publication - 11/19/25
The Goal
By the end of the semester, my team will present to our peers a faithful recreation of the Comet Observatory from Super Mario Galaxy. This assignment is testing all the skills we have accumulated so far.
The Role
Combining the roles of lead and producer leads to some taxing moments, but I have been able to keep the boat traveling in the correct direction while also ensuring my team members are not being overworked. This was our best sprint point-wise, as each member of the team contributed greatly, completing almost all the cards they were assigned.
The Sprint
During this sprint, I once again focused on the main environmental pieces at the bottom level. Last sprint, I tackled the left side; this time, I went to work on the right side. However, before I could go and work on new stuff, I had to revisit some models from the last sprint, as I believed the topology was not the most optimized it could be. This turned out to be a lengthy process at the start of the sprint, which placed a hamper on progress. After retoplogizing the models, I believed I was done, but Maya had other plans, as when I logged in the next day, some of the topology was just destroyed. Meaning I had to restart from scratch as the model, regardless of the incremented save, had errors. Once I finished redoing everything once again. I was finally able to tackle the new cards. The main thing I worked on was the Observatory's Library, as it was the most demanding card I assigned myself.

The Block Out
The Result
Working in the Library was a challenge due to its unusual shape, which was initially difficult to work around. It got easier for me once I realized I could break it into multiple different pieces instead of working with one oddly shaped cube. I am pretty happy with the final result; however, if I get some time during the next couple of sprints, I might return to it and add some smaller details.

In Block Out
The Cabinet after the library was relatively simple to create, with most of the details derived from the texture itself.
Launch Star
The Launch Star was not as difficult as I thought it would be; this is primarily due to my having practiced creating one for a previous assignment. I created this one using the same methods. Of reducing a cylinder down to a pentagon, then playing with the vertices.
Miscallanous
Starbits
Collectables for Mario
Mario travels across galaxies to get these items.
The Result
Despite having a rough start to the sprint, I was still able to contribute to my team so we could double our points compared to the last sprint. During the course of Thanksgiving break, I intend to chip away at progress to ensure that we stay ahead so we don't feel rushed once we get back to classes.
